Brookside Glen Pond Project
Issues with the Brookside Glen Ponds

What's New

Please join us for a meeting on every third thursday at Frankfort Square park district to discuss the issues about the clean up of the ponds and parks on our walking paths.

Please ask all your friends and neighbors to join us.

I am also looking for volunteers for any weekend to sit at the walking path by the bridge and talk to all the people on the path to join us in the meeting with the park district.  We can set up a table and some chairs.

Please let me know if you’re interested.
Let’s clean up our beautiful neighborhood.

From Jim Randall to Kathy April 16th 2009
Subject: Brookside Glen Ponds

Dear Ms. Ronan:

The Frankfort Square Park District is aware of your concern regarding the lily pads.  In 2008, the district contracted an outside firm to apply herbicides as a control measure in these areas.  In 2009, a staff member completed course work, testing, and certification to provide aquatic herbicides in this area and throughout the district when necessary.  The park district is in a much better position to address your concern earlier and more often than in the past.

If you would like me to notify you of application dates, enabling you to personally track the progress, please let me know.

I have been encouraging residents to present concerns directly to Commissioners for many years.  I highly encourage you to take the opportunity to attend a meeting in the coming months.

Sincerely,

Jim Randall

Reply from FSPD

I recently sent a email requesting information from FSPD and here is their reply.

"Can you tell me how are positions appointed or elected for the board and Executive Director Position, and when are they held? Also where are the board meeting notes for the monthly meetings on the website for the public to see."

Dear Mr. Arnold:

The Frankfort Square Park District has an elected Board of seven commissioners.  The Board internally nominates and elects the President and Vice President.  The Park Secretary and Treasurer are appointed by the Park Board President.

The Executive Director is an employee of the park district and was hired by the Park Board.

The Executive Director hires and oversees all full time and part time employees.  All full time positions within the district are approved by the Park Board.  I have attached a flow chart detailing the organizational diagram of the Frankfort Square Park District.

Park Board meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of each month.  Committee meetings routinely occur during the calendar year, and meeting time and locations are posted at the park office.  Minutes are taken at every Park Board meeting and are retained permanently.  They are available for review at the park office.  Currently, the park district does not post Board minutes on its website.

If you need additional information or clarification, please contact me directly.

Sincerely,
Jim Randall, Executive Director

A Few Questions

Orland Park and Tinley Park have well maintained and visually pleasing ponds, and many parts of Frankfort Square.

Why does the Frankfort Square Park District insist on providing Brookside Glen Residents with poorly maintained overgrown weed beds?

Is it cost, poor planning or indifference by the Frankfort Square Park District?

The tax money generated by the Brookside Glenn Residents should be more than adequate to provide for proper maintenance within the development's boundaries.

Apparently our residents are being short-changed by the Frankfort Square Park District's method of allocating funds. The ponds behind our homes are unsightly and need to be cleaned, dredged and properly maintained.
